Which countries are most chosen or considered the ‘best’ by Nepali students for their higher studies abroad?
There has been a rising interest in studying abroad amongst Nepali/Nepalese students. We know that countries like the USA, UK, Australia and Canada have been preferred destinations amongst international students, since many years. Amongst the large fraction of international students who head overseas for their career, there are Nepali students who have a glowing ambition of shaping their career to the fullest.
There are, of course, several reasons why Nepalese/Nepali students want to move out of the beautiful Himalayan country, either in search of a good job or education. However, there is no proper record as how many Nepali students actually study abroad. Normally, students who are issued NOCs by the Nepal government are guaranteed to step out of the country and study overseas.
Countries that are most popular amongst the students in Nepal, for their higher studies:
Australia
Australia has emerged as a number 1 study abroad destination amongst Nepalese students. In fact, Nepal is Australia’s third-largest source of international students. The Australian lifestyle and pleasant climatic conditions are what appeal most to the students in Nepal, making it an attractive overseas education choice. Since Australia has some of the world’s finest institutions, it adds to the reasons why Nepali students are valuing the quality of education ‘down under’.
Based on a report released by the Nepali Times, as of September 2016, 20,463 students were enrolled from Nepal to Australian educational institutions.
As per the recent report (March 1 2018), by the Sydney Morning Herald, Victoria University and Western Sydney University have been identified as the most chosen institutes in Australia by Nepalese students.
Germany
Germany ought to be on the list! And why not, the concept of free education and huge investments that are made by the government for the future of students studying in Germany are biggest advantages that any student can ever receive.
This country values education, and consistently upgrades its education institutions’ quality of teaching and learning. It also provides aplenty of scholarships and other modes of financial aid for its international students.
So, if we put together all the benefits of studying in Germany, then it’s for obvious reasons that a large number of students from Nepal are willing to study in this country.
USA
Irrespective of political tensions, the USA will perhaps never lose its charm amongst the international student population. It is estimated that 70% of the students looking to study aboard choose the USA. Home to the top private universities, state universities and community colleges in the world, this country has been at the forefront of delivering quality education.
Ireland
Irish castles attract students from all over the world, and it doesn’t spare Nepalese students either. Every year, many students from Nepal are heading to Irish institutions in want of good education at affordable costs.
Do you know there is a Nepal Ireland Society based in Dublin? The society closely works with the Nepal Embassy in London to strengthen ties between Nepal and Ireland
Canada
Canada has become one of the favoured destinations amongst international students for the past few years. It has also lured students from Nepal looking for tertiary education and opportunities to settle in the country. The changing policies, particularly the Express Entry System, draw students from all over the globe.
New Zealand
New Zealand is yet another favorite study abroad destination amongst Nepali students. Post-study and part-time work options for students in NZ are some of the perks that are attracting large number of students from Nepal. In addition, the opportunity to settle in the country, especially for research scholars, is a feather in the cap of students heading to the country.
The New Zealand government invests adequate funds in education, and also makes sure that they retain the foreign population by providing them good benefits, such as domestic school tuition fees for children and support to the dependants.
